We only need to confirm this with the manufacturer’s information and follow some basic guidelines.

Cookware made specifically for cooking is, of course, oven-ready.

However, there are some pieces of our tableware with which we have some doubts. Can ceramic bowls or plates go in the oven?

It is important to know that there are limitations to the resistance to certain temperatures of a plate, bowl, cup or other pieces that have not been manufactured specifically for baking.

Ceramics subjected to excessive temperatures, depending on their composition, can be a brittle material and crack or break. For example, it is probably not a good idea to place a cold porcelain dish in an oven preheated to a high temperature.

This is because the heat will cause it to suffer thermal shock. This is a rapid temperature change that can cause the material to crack or break. The best way to avoid this is to put our containers in a cold oven.

In general, most dishes can withstand temperatures up to 350º F. Some dishes can withstand even higher temperatures.

A dish made with ceramic materials that make it oven safe will withstand temperatures in excess of 480ºF. Let’s not forget that ceramics are made of clay which in turn has been fired in a kiln at temperatures sometimes exceeding 1800° F.

It should be noted that a ceramic bowl or other container that is not specially enameled to withstand high temperatures will not be the most suitable for placing in an oven.

When buying ceramic tableware, make sure that the manufacturer indicates that it is oven safe, either on the labeling, on their website, etc. Some include a symbol on the bottom of the dish, bowl, etc., indicating whether it is oven safe or not.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider color=”#C0C0C0″ _builder_version=”4.19.2″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”||50px||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” _builder_version=”4.18.0″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” width_tablet=”85%” width_phone=”90%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_margin=”0px||||false|false” custom_margin_tablet=”50px||||false|false” custom_margin_phone=”40px||||false|false” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”0px||||false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.19.2″ _module_preset=”a2f533e2-9ee7-4615-bd4f-9d4f36476524″ header_font=”Oswald|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#000000″ header_3_text_color=”#000000″ header_3_font_size=”45px” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” custom_padding_tablet=”60px||||false|false” custom_padding_phone=”40px||||false|false” custom_padding_last_edited=”off|desktop” header_3_font_size_tablet=”40px” header_3_font_size_phone=”35px” header_3_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Can you put a ceramic plate in the oven?

If we do not have the manufacturer’s guarantee that we can do it, and we still want to take the risk, first of all, it is important to check the thickness of the plate. Thicker dishes are safer in the oven, and will not break as easily if the temperature fluctuates.

Another thing you can check is that it is not a porous piece, such as, for example, an unglazed earthenware. An oven safe, non-porous bowl or dish will be more durable and easier to clean. Effectively retains heat and distributes it evenly.

Avoid direct exposure to high temperatures. Placing a porcelain dish in a preheated oven may not be a good idea, especially if it is thin. Be aware of the dangers of thermal shock, a rapid change in temperature that can cause the material to crack or break. If we are not sure that they will hold, it is best to put the dishes in the oven cold or at a low temperature and heat them from there. You can also test it beforehand by placing it in a corner of the oven.

If it has silver or gold trimmings the dish will be warmer.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider color=”#C0C0C0″ _builder_version=”4.19.2″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”||50px||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” _builder_version=”4.18.0″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” width_tablet=”85%” width_phone=”90%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_margin=”0px||||false|false” custom_margin_tablet=”50px||||false|false” custom_margin_phone=”40px||||false|false” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”0px||||false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.19.2″ _module_preset=”a2f533e2-9ee7-4615-bd4f-9d4f36476524″ header_font=”Oswald|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#000000″ header_3_text_color=”#000000″ header_3_font_size=”45px” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” custom_padding_tablet=”60px||||false|false” custom_padding_phone=”40px||||false|false” custom_padding_last_edited=”off|desktop” header_3_font_size_tablet=”40px” header_3_font_size_phone=”35px” header_3_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”]

To know if it is possible to put a ceramic plate in the oven.

If you are going to buy tableware made of porcelain or other ceramic type, it is good to know if your set of plates and cups is oven safe. It is not very common to put a cup in the oven, however sometimes dishes do and not all are the same. When in doubt, be sure to choose a thicker ceramic. This will help prevent the dish from breaking under sudden temperature changes.

It is important to note that putting a ceramic plate in the oven is not a simple matter. This is because the heat can cause the plate to crack. This is especially true when the plate is not designed for oven use. The dish will also need to be preheated before putting it in the oven.

The first step in making sure your ceramic dish is oven safe is to check its labeling. It should have an “oven” symbol or other indicative sign, (not to be confused with the wavy lines that indicate microwave use). These signs may vary from brand to brand.

You should also look for a stamp on the bottom of the plate. The stamp should indicate the heat resistance of the plate, it may even specify the temperature the part can withstand.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://arteologic.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/symbols-of-safe-use-of-ceramics-in-the-kitchen.webp” alt=”symbols-of-safe-use-of-ceramics-in-the-kitchen” title_text=”symbols-of-safe-use-of-ceramics-in-the-kitchen” align=”center” _builder_version=”4.19.4″ _module_preset=”default” width_tablet=”70%” width_phone=”80%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_margin=”80px||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ border_radii=”on|5px|5px|5px|5px” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” width=”60%” sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.19.2″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”|300|on||||||” text_font_size=”16px” text_line_height=”1em” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin_tablet=”10px||||false|false” custom_margin_phone=”-10px||20px||false|false” custom_margin_last_edited=”on|phone” text_font_size_tablet=”15px” text_font_size_phone=”15px” text_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Symbols of the use of ceramics in the kitchen

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider color=”#000000″ _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”||50px||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_divider][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” _builder_version=”4.18.0″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” width_tablet=”85%” width_phone=”90%” width_last_edited=”on|phone” custom_margin=”0px||||false|false” custom_margin_tablet=”50px||||false|false” custom_margin_phone=”40px||||false|false” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”0px||||false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.19.2″ _module_preset=”a2f533e2-9ee7-4615-bd4f-9d4f36476524″ header_font=”Oswald|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#000000″ header_3_text_color=”#000000″ header_3_font_size=”45px” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”||||false|false” custom_padding_tablet=”60px||||false|false” custom_padding_phone=”40px||||false|false” custom_padding_last_edited=”off|desktop” header_3_font_size_tablet=”40px” header_3_font_size_phone=”35px” header_3_font_size_last_edited=”on|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”]

What is oven safe ceramic?

Oven safe ceramic ware is a type of dinnerware that is specially coated to withstand the high temperatures of an oven.
